Unfortunately, being diligent about setting security settings isn’t enough. And of course, there are no chances of data breach right?

Try using DuckDuckGo as a search engine. They claim they don't track anything.
None you improvise, one (or more) is luxury.

But then again, all other search engines also say they don't track if you set your privacy modes as such. Or do they???

Though I have nothing to hide, I find it really odd that my tablet - which hardly leaves the house - is all of a sudden posting adds for vehicles after I visited dealerships with my phone. And only researched vehicles on the desktop. I get there are some connections, but good grief!

Now that I'm retired, the cell phone is turned on only if I need to place a call. I don't use it for the Internet.

I've used DuckDuckGo for years. I've never received an ad as a result of a search.

I was once told to look at the Internet as one big old telephone party line that some of us may remember from pre 80’s.

Short of going back to pre electronic age, there is nothing you can do to ensure 100% electronic security. Simple as that.

So tighten up all your privacy settings. even if off, if phone is nearby, you are vulnerable. Every bit helps, so go as gray or dark as practical for you

Give a man a gun, and he can rob a bank. Give a man a bank, and he can rob the world.

Personally, I don't have a problem with Big Brother watching me. To put this in perspective, with approximately 40 million people to watch in Canada, how much time is really spent watching me as an individual? The answer is Zero...

It may be different if the Government believes that I'm involved in a crime, or something subversive. On the other hand, would I want the Government to be watching anyone engaged in such activities? Absolutely. You can't have it both ways in a Society. You either accept surveillance and enhanced security, or you don't. I'm glad big brother is making the effort!

It's not so much government actors I'm concerned about as much as everyone collecting tis-bits of info on me and then the data gets breached by more nefarious actors. Such as my Air Canada app I was using for travel purposes. Yup, it was compromised... Good thing is there was very little useful info they would have obtained, thought my spam mail box might receive more business offers from rich desperate Arabian princes ?!
