Leave or Defend?

Post by Wayne » Mon Apr 02, 2018 5:04 pm

In a lawless environment, few of us would hesitate to defend our property and the preparations we've made. Under what circumstance are the risks to our loved ones too high? When do we fight and when do we leave?

For me, getting out of Dodge would give the best chance for my family to remain uninjured. That would be my first priority. History has shown that assaulting a position is usually easier than defending it.

In the past, I've maintained that when threatened with force (where family survival was in-question), I wouldn't "shoot it out." and would prefer to leave and fight another day (under my terms). There are of course exceptions...

To this end, I've taken precautions of storing the required equipment at an undisclosed location off my property. My tactical training and experience substantiates combat success at long range. Preferably at a distance where I can take down the perpetrators while camouflaged and unseen.

Because of this, I've been reluctant to pursue any home security preparations beyond the norm (windows, doors, other security measures). As I see it, this would only make my job more difficult upon my return. Such precautions cut both ways.

I'm interested in how you would deal with the problem? Is leaving a consideration, or would you elect to defend the Alamo?

What are your plans and preparations for such an eventuality, or is it something that you haven't considered? How do you balance home security with your plan?

For defending the alamo, im a little too residential for an all out attack except by a dedicated band of marauders. They would know they were in a tussle though. Dont forget the 3-1 ratio for attack vs defence . Small unit attacks by assaulters get away by skill and prep. Lesser trained/untrained can be pushed back by a good defense,in that time they may reconsider their target choice. Generally speaking when bodies start accumulating goals may change

With two small children leaving would be the last option. How to keep them alive, let alone my wife and I alive. It would be impossible for me with my skill set. So leaving isn't an option I would consider outside of being forced out of our home. Also a .22 isn't much protection either.

Wayne! Sounds like your preparing for war lol. J/K but I was going to start a thread on MAG's and found this gem! Your very right. The best is to have a secluded hidden place away from the home and make the home seem deserted/ unlivable (no stove pipe). Let marauders have what ever they can find and stay hidden. A small family could survive for years if they lived this way. Problems are is that a life? And you usually can't garden or raise animals/ have fire because of smoke (impossible here in winter) I heard many say before that they would rather retreat and long rage attack after. Your safe because they can't see you and their very easy to see and dodge as its your home turf.

lol Perhaps a War involving one warrior... Me, my rifle and my Gillie suit... Guards aren't however necessary, just a clean-up crew. :-)

I would stay in the home (bulk of supplies hidden). I'd welcome anyone in to share a cup of tea and have a good look at what little is available. A poor man has nothing to fear from a Robber.

Any fire can be replenished from the forest. Feel free to stop by to warm-up. I might have an extra squirrel to share next time...

Lets check-out the next place; there's nothing here... OR ...My family and I'll just leave (I'll be back).....

Either way, my family is safe.

Not sure what there would be to get ready for. Solar minimum is simply a period of low activity on the sun such as CME, flares, etc.

Yes, Obama did sign an executive order to mitigate against space weather events. The events that cause concern are associated with solar maximum, not minimum.

Isn't the solar minimum related to what they call the modern ice age, or am I confused?
