hello from Wainuiomata Wellington

Post by STEPHENH »

have come accross this site in my general travels regarding prepping and was another one that is suprised nz isnt more on this site but hopefully this will change.
A little about myself im married and really only started prepping 6 months ago as we all know if there is a disater in wellington we will be surving on our own or with friends for a few months.
I expect im lucky as ive stated storing additional supplies at work in one of the spare rooms as im based in Wainuiomata i have a advantage as i live and work in the valley but shouldnt get to comfortable with that because we as a communinity are not aware what can happen to us until a disater happens

A few updates as it is hard for a lot of families to put food away i have started just spending $30.00 a week getting food a week and putting it to the side as we are aware as long as we put something aside.
so far i have
1000ltr tank of water
camp cooker
tins of food enough to last 2 people 2 weeks at this stage
big bag of flour (in a sealed plastic drum hoping it doesnt go off)
petrol generator(for emergency power only as petrol will be to dear to run continuisly)
Matches
toilet products (but need to look at a toilet sytem of some sort)
5kg bag of rice
20kg bag of potatoes

Sounds like you are off to a good start there. The only thing missing for me is the Generator.
Have you looked a Communications.? A portable radio or a Multi-band radio. One that works off mains or batteries?.
In any case $30.00 is a great start each week in these tough times. I would probabaly spend that maybe once a month.
I Just brought two Emergency blankets and a Fire starter to add to my Bug out Bag.

Good luck.

Crank radios, especially those with weather channels are great and not too expensive.

There is a good thread on the Aussie site that might be of some help here...

Greetings from marlborough!
good to have more kiwis on our form. i definitely think $30.00 a week is good to start prepping although im only spending $15(im 14 years old)
i do suggest a high quality knife and radio.
Cigarettes are just like HedgeHogs, perfectly harmless until you put them in your mouth and light them on fire.
